2014 Flag Retirement Ceremony (posted: November 11, 2014)
On Saturday afternoon, November 8, 2014 the Fred-Rapp Chapter of the
Izaak Walton League of America
hosted the second annual Fredericksburg Flag Retirement Ceremony at the
Chapter grounds. It was a beautiful, cloudless and cool afternoon for
the solemn and patriotic event. A small crowd joined with Troop
835 of the Boy Scouts of America in properly retiring the hundreds of
worn and tattered Old Glories that were brought for retirement. At one
point an eagle was seen flying above the tree line as taps was played
at various points in the ceremony. The ashes from the two fires will be
combined and later buried in the local flag cemetery to complete the
process.
